BKF is a proprietary backup format (also known as "Microsoft Tape Format" or MTF) to back up files so that their backup versions can be used when the original data is lost. BKF files can be backed up on to tape, ZIP drives, floppy disks, and hard disk drives. BKF file format is used by NTBACKUP which is the built-in backup application.
