Since its humble beginnings just before the second world war began, the airport has now grown in stature. Reports show that over 9 million passengers travel through her each year. This includes domestic and international flight passengers. It is no wonder then that today Birmingham is one of the UK top six busiest airports.

There are two main terminals within the airport. They are named terminal one and terminal two.The main terminal is T1. This is where passengers can find the check in desks for flights. There are over 30 airlines which use this facility on the ground floor of the terminal building. Passengers please remember when flying from the airport to International destinations they require to check in at least 3 hours before their flight takes off. If passengers are travelling to Europe, they to need to arrive and check in at least 2 hours before the flight depart. Domestic flight passengers now need to arrive at Birmingham at least 90 minutes before take off to check in for their flight.

The time of arrival for check in by passengers has been increased due to the tightening levels of security by airports around the globe. Passengers can generally board flights around 45 minutes before take off. This could vary depending on each airline. Travellers are best to double check direct with their airline. As each airline have their own policies. Travellers are always best to check in the event they miss their flight.

The terminal one building has several facilities for passengers. There is a Burger King to keep everyone happy (child and adult). You can buy a coffee and sandwich from two outlets. If you wish light refreshment, travellers can purchase alcohol from a bar/pub. For those passengers travelling with small children and babies there are changing facilities located close to the toilet area within the departure area. If you have forgotten to charge your mobiles before travelling you can use the pay phone and internet service. Both can be located in the lounge area.

Passengers wishing to do some last minute shopping can find a variety of shops offering various services. Accessories and gifts can be purchased for any present which you have still to buy for friends or relatives. Beauty products can be bought for yourself if you have any spending money left over before flying. There are always the games and amusements to keep the teenagers busy before flying. They can be found opposite Starbucks Coffee shop.

Please note all buildings in the UK are now non smoking areas. Designated smoking areas can be found outside the building.
