Bird training programs are not all created equal. In fact, if chosen hastily, a bird training program can in fact cause more problems than it solves. When evaluating training programs there for your bird are a few key ingredients to look for.

Training philosophy. The most important thing to look for in any bird training program is the training philosophy. Do they practice positive reinforcement techniques? This is important. Other parrot training techniques can frighten or stress out birds. The result is a bird that doesn't trust you and is fearful, which equals bad behavior like biting, screaming, thrashing and pulling out their feathers.

Bird trainers use positive training techniques always. Positive training means rewards, verbal praise, physical praise and food treats for a job well done. Clicker training is an integral part to any successful training program using positive reinforcement techniques. Free trial or samples so you know the program's right for you and your bird. There's nothing worse than investing your hard earned money into a bird training program only to find out after the fact that it isn't right for you or your bird. Look for a bird training program which offers free information, videos, articles and even a free trial. This gives you the opportunity to make sure you're getting your money's worth.

A bird trainer who uses real birds to demonstrate with - not fully trained birds. It's amazing to watch some bird trainers. Their birds can do wonderful, fantastic tricks. The problem is when they use these birds to demonstrate the tricks or behaviors you're supposed to be teaching your bird well it's just not realistic. Birds who are new to training throw all sorts of obstacles in your path. They are afraid of the prop, they're biting, and they can even completely ignore you. Training birds that have no previous training can be quite different than using a bird that's been through even just a couple bird training sessions.

These beautifully created videos with intelligent and well trained birds don't show you the reality of training birds. Look for a bird training program which understands your needs, whatever they are. Multiple formats. We all learn differently. Some of us learn better by reading a manual and others learn better by watching or listening to information. Having bird training available in your preferred learning method is worth its weight in gold. Rather than having to force yourself to read and understand a manual if you're a visual learner, then a video will make the process much more effective and efficient for you.

Training with a goal. Yes it's fun to teach your bird to roll over and play dead however if your bird is still biting and screaming then the training program hasn't done you much good. For many the goal for finding and implementing a bird training program is to eliminate behavior problems. For others it is to bond or to improve upon their already learned behaviors. A one size fits all bird training program isn't going to work for many. Instead, look for a bird training program which meets your individual training goals. Variety of programs to meet your specific needs. Once you get started with a particular bird training program, it's nice to find a trainer who offers a variety of products and training programs.

That way you can evolve and grow your training regimen with the same practitioner. Look for a bird training program which will allow you and your bird to grow and progress. Not all bird training programs are equal. In fact there are some real awful programs out there. Take your time and evaluate a program. Look for one which can meet your present needs as well as one you can grow with. Bird training programs, the right programs, can help owners create a loving and happy environment now and for years to come.
