Bible Study Guide - Ensuring That Your Lessons Will Make an Impact

Sunday school is, in many cases, the first place that the children of the congregation will have the opportunity to learn about the teachings of their religion. You, as the teacher, act as a Bible study guide to your students. By incorporating fun Bible activities, you are helping to ensure that your teachings will leave a mark.

Tarnished Silver Bible Lesson for Kids

Object lessons are great ways to reinforce the teachings that you have covered as the class's Bible study guide. This Sunday school activity focuses on the lesson that while times can be difficult, God uses these hard times to make us more like Jesus-and He is always near us.

For this Bible activity, you'll need a tarnished silver tray and silver polish. Ask your youth ministry class if they know how silver is made. Explain how there were silversmiths in the past that would mold and create functional objects from silver. But first, the silver had to be made pure-refined. To refine silver, the silversmith would hold the silver over a flame, getting the metal to heat up.

Read Malachi 3:3 to your Sunday school students. It says that God "will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." Explain that sometimes, it may feel like God is holding us over a flame as we go through tough periods in our lives. However, God doesn't just abandon us to the fire-He stays with us, watching the flame and the silver very carefully. The moral of the activity is to know that God will never let us stay over the flame (or go through a difficult time) for too long. He will never let us be destroyed.

The Second Part of the Bible Lesson for Kids

Read Romans 8:28 to the youth ministry: "God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." Explain that this means that God can use those tough times for the benefit of our lives. How does the silversmith (God) know when the silver (us) is refined? He can see His own image in us. And He can see His Son, Jesus Christ in us.

Now it's time to use the silver polish to clean up the tray. Once you're done, allow the kids to look at their reflections in the silver. Wrap up the Sunday school activity by saying that when we feel like we're being held over the flame and going through a rough time, we should always remember that God is using this difficulty to make us more like His Son; He will never abandon us. This is one lesson that they can write in their Bible study guide.
