Better and Safer Teeth Whitening

I believe that it was on Oprah's show where it was announced that the quality of your teeth is one of the first things that people judge you by. Yellow and stained teeth stand out and can be noticed from even far away. Though there is nothing that you can do for yourself is you have broken or misaligned teeth, a dentist is your only hope there, but we can all get a whiter smile without spending a fortune or hurting our teeth.

Though tooth whitening strips do a great job at whitening teeth, they only whiten what they touch. I have seen some pretty bad results with these strips. If you only whiten the front of your teeth, the areas between the teeth and the sides of the teeth really start to stand out and look horrible. Whitening strips are also quite expensive.

Your dentist can perform professional whitening on your teeth. Using a combination of strong bleaching agents and even ultra-violet light, you can get really good result. Your dentist can whiten your smile faster than any other method, but this is also the most expensive way to go.

Whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes work well, especially when you use them together. They are more expensive than normal toothpaste and mouthwash, but they are no where near the cost of the other options. You should see results within a few weeks of using these products and they do provide a more even whitening that the strips.

My favorite method for whitening my teeth is also the cheapest of them all. Swish hydrogen peroxide around in your mouth each night. Also, brush your teeth with a paste of baking soda and a little water. Using these two, you should see results in as little time as one week. You probably already have both hydrogen peroxide and baking soda lying around the house, so start whitening!

I keep seeing site on the Internet that claim that you should use lemon juice to whiten your teeth. This is a really bad idea. The acid in the lemons will attack the enamel on your teeth and can lead to cavities and other issues. Once your enamel is compromised, it doesn't grow back, so protect it as best as you can. Don't trust every DIY site that you find, follow up any unbelievable claims with a little more web research.
