Many people ask me what are the best raw food appliances they should buy when starting the raw diet. Your budget will be a huge factor in deciding what raw food appliances to purchase.
When on the raw diet you will be adding a tremendous amount of fruits and vegetables to your diet, so you will definitely need a cutting board and a good knife set. These days good knife sets are available at home goods stores such as Target, Walmart, and Kmart. You can also find them online. I like ceramic knives; even though they are more expensive, they are super sharp.
Once you have a good knife set and cutting board, I recommend buying two affordable kitchen gadgets. The spiral slicer and a nut milk bag are two really affordable and useful tools. The spiral slicer is a lightweight vegetable slicer than can make unique cuts out of vegetables. Most people use it to make zucchini pasta as an alternative to wheat pasta. A nut milk bag is a simple filtering bag that is usually made of nylon. With a nut milk bag you can make almond milk and other nut milks, and if you don't have a juicer you can use it as a juicer to make fresh juice. You do need a blender to make both nut milk and fresh juice with your nut milk bag.
The next appliance I would recommend is a really powerful blender. You should expect to spend anywhere from 150-450 for a high speed blender. A high speed blender is crucial to the living food diet. You can use a high speed blender to make smoothies, soups, sauces, and raw desserts. A regular blender will not give you the smooth texture that you can achieve with a high speed blender. If you can afford it, I would recommend the Vitamix Blender and K-tec Blender. Also, as long as you have a blender and a nut milk bag, you can juice with a high powered blender as well.
