Delivering a speech to any audience is a daunting thing for the vast majority of people but a best man's speech can be even worse as the bride and groom and their families are relying on you to do a great job for them.

There are many things that can potentially go wrong. Nerves can get the better of you and you forget what to say. You try and make a joke but end up offending someone. But if you have prepared well and follow the example of great speeches that have worked for others then you should be fine.

One important thing is to make a start. Many people put off writing until the last possible minute, but if you sit down and just write about the bride and groom and any anecdotes you can remember you will find you have a lot to stay. You can then work this material into a fine speech.

Also you should be careful not to say anything that is funny to you and the groom but will not go down well with the bride or their parents. Many times a best man has tried to target his friends with the material and it has fallen flat for the rest of the audience. Be aware that there will probably be people of all ages and backgrounds listening to you.

A good best man's speech should include funny moments, personal moments and touching moments and if you can get the tone right you will get a great reaction from the audience.
