Keep Your Speech Relevant to the Bride and Groom

For example, you may initially want to speak about friends or family members of yours that are not even at the wedding. Rather than share stories about them, try to come up with a story about the bride and groom that have similarities to the story you want to talk about. If you cannot find a compatible story, then you may be better off changing the theme of your speech.  

Strike a Balance Between Humor and Seriousness

When you know someone well, there is always a tendency to want to bring some humor into the event. Even though everyone expects a bit of humor in best man speeches, you also need to convey the fact that you sincerely wish the bride and groom well. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to lapse into long passages of scripture, or talk about serious events in order to convey this element of your speech. In many cases, simply saying you wish the bride and groom all the happiness, and best things in life may be sufficient.  

Choose an Appropriate Length Speech

As a best man, your speech will be a key part of the event. That said, it is also important to realize that the bride and groom are the central focus of the wedding. When best man speeches are too long, many people will think that you are trying to take things over. On the other hand, if your speech is too short, the audience may think that you really don't have much interest in the event. In most cases, you will get a feeling for the correct speech length when you go to the practice wedding sessions. Ideally, you should take note of how long everyone else's speech is, and then adjust your own accordingly.

No matter how challenging it may be to come up with best man speeches, you should always feel honored to carry out this role. Without a question, if you have already gone through the marriage ceremony, then you can well understand how important your job will be. At the very least you can do a few simple things to make sure that your best man speeches are tailor made for the individuals being married.
