Best Kept Weight Loss Secrets to Help Manage Type 2 Diabetes and Blood Sugar Levels!

Expert Author Beverleigh H Piepers

It is a known fact that losing 5 to 7% of your total body weight can effectively reduce your blood sugar levels, blood pressure and your cholesterol level. Now you can learn some of the best kept weight loss secrets to get these benefits without following any special diet plan.

For anyone, but especially for people with Type 2 diabetes, eliminating unwanted pounds or kilograms is tremendously important. For starters it boosts your insulin sensitivity: the more fat you trim away, the more responsive your cells are to insulin. This is especially true for fat around your waistline.

1. Avoid pop. Drink water (maybe flavored with a wedge of lemon) instead of pop. Regular pop contain fructose corn syrup which causes weight gain and insulin resistance. Diet pop contains artificial sweeteners that can actually cause you to gain weight.

2. Skip those packaged snack foods such as cakes, cookies, chips, and doughnuts. They may be convenient but they are not good for you. They usually will have a high content of fat and sugar.

3. Eat something colorful that is not packaged. Fruits and vegetables are excellent choices for snacks. Many gas stations and convenience stores have fresh fruit available at their counter along with all of the sugary snacks.

4. Pass on foods that are creamy or squishy. These are usually loaded with fat. Creamed vegetables, cream soups, gravies, dressings, sauces fall into this category.

5. Avoid fried foods. You can have the same food... just cook it a different way. Summer time is a great time to grill your food which is much healthier for you.

6. Avoid fast food. Most fast food is actually fat food.

7. Enjoy your meals at home. When you eat at home or prepare your lunch for work at home; you eat the healthy foods you have already selected from the grocery store, not unhealthy food listed on a menu at a restaurant or fast food outlet.

8. Park away from your destination and take the few minutes to walk to where you are going. Stop driving around looking for a parking spot close to the mall entrance and park in the last row and walk. Walking small amounts of time that add up to 30 minutes a day can help you shed pounds (and give lower blood sugar levels), in no time at all.

It has been said that the little things in life are often the most important and that is true when it comes to managing Type 2 diabetes. You don't have to start an expensive diet plan, purchase expensive exercise equipment, or even join a health club to get results that can be life changing.

These best kept secrets are a matter of choice for healthy eating and letting your feet do the walking. You will soon see the benefit, even before you have weight loss you will have lower blood sugar levels.
