Hemorrhoids are widespread phenomenon today. About 45% of the total population fall victim to hemorrhoids under the age of 50. Most of the cases are related to external hemorrhoids, which are the swollen veins beginning with a soft lump that eventually hardens outside of the rectum. The lumps are either simple looking or a blood clot that can be very hurtful.

The factors causing hemorrhoids are stressed bowel movements, pregnancy, obesity, liver cirrhosis and recurring diarrhea. But as with any other disease, prevention is almost always a better option than cure. Losing weight, for example, can reduce the size of the lump and thus can be very helpful. Doing regular exercise and regulating the bowels are also useful. Drinking a lot of liquids and performing regular walks aid in regulating the bowels. Another thing that you should probably be doing anyways is to eat a lot more fruits and vegetables. These provide the body with natural fiber and will keep the colon and bowels clean as well.

There are mainly two ways to treat hemorrhoids: either you can treat it naturally or have a surgery done. Often surgery is performed when the disorder has entered into an advanced stage. Otherwise, a natural remedy is preferred because surgery is quite expensive and often unnecessary. Be sure to keep your work place and home as clean as you possibly can, specifically the place where you sit. It is highly advisable to avoid junk food crammed with chemicals, but rather eat food that is rich in fiber: fruits, vegetables and whole grain. If you follow some of this advice you should notice a dramatic improvement in not only your hemorrhoids, but your health in general.
