A clerk is a highly skilled person who performs clerical work. He or she is employed in a public and private office, for keeping records or accounts. They conduct general office or some sort of sales tasks.

Interview is a two way communication process between a potential interviewer and a prospective interviewee. In this article I would mainly provide you some interview questions that are frequently asked in clerical interviews.

1. Can you please tell us some essential roles and responsibilities of this job?

It is a very crucial position in an organization. A clerk has to perform numerous responsible, confidential and routine administrative functions. They have to type and proofread reports, correspondence, forms, etc. They assist public in researching information, answering and responding to phone inquires, organizing and maintaining files, preparing notices and documents.

2. Please elaborate about your educational qualifications, experience and skills

I have ample experience in this field. I am extremely skilled in operating typewriter, personal computer, general office procedures, bookkeeping and computer entry. I have brilliant ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos. I can easily deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

3. Tell us something about the occupation specific tasks that you have performed

In my previous organization I performed variety of job specific tasks such as adding new material to file records, creating new records, answering questions about records, assigning stamp identification numbers or codes in order to index materials, eliminating outdated or unnecessary materials, retrieving information from files, modifying and improving file system.

4. What is your typing speed?

A clerk is supposed to have a very good typing speed. On an average they are supposes to have a typing speed of 40 to 50 words per minute. Hence you should make sure that you possess this speed. Otherwise it is very hard for you to be selected. You should practice very hard on typing speed.

5. What did you make at your last job?

Tell honestly about your last compensation. Do not exaggerate or inflate your previous earnings. Employers check your references to confirm your salary history. You can also add by saying that my last job was completely different from this one. So let us discuss about the roles and responsibility and then determine the salary.
