Benefits Of Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

Spring is just around the corner and its time for a little spring-cleaning. This year you might want to throw away some of the cleaning products you've used in the past and consider "greener" cleaning solutions. Today's modern home is full of chemical products designed to make domestic life easier but in reality they loaded with toxic and polluting substances.

Chemical solutions not only contribute to environmental pollution but can also effect long term health for the your family. One in three people suffer from allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis according to the US National Center for Health Statistics and the use of chemical cleaning products have been linked to contributing to the cause. By eliminating harmful chemicals in the home environment and using non-toxic cleaning products you can reduce some of these effects.

There are many cleaning solutions on the market but don't let the phrases on the bottle's label fool you ("kills germs", "antibacterial"). Many cleaning products do not list the ingredients on the back of the bottle, leaving the consumer clueless as the contents are. The Environmental Protection Agency and the American Lung Association have done extensive research on the chemicals used in most cleaners and the findings are worth attention. For example, when sodium hypochlorite, a key ingredient in chlorine bleach, is mixed with ammonia, a toxic gas is released that may cause mild asthmatic symptoms or more serious respiratory problems. Ammonia, another common cleaning ingredient, especially in glass cleaners, is known to cause eye and lung irritation along with headaches. Phenol and cresol in disinfectants can cause diarrhea, fainting, dizziness, kidney and liver damage.

Children and babies are especially more sensitive to toxins because they are always on the floor and putting things into their mouths. It is crucial to keep babies and children away from harmful chemicals because a baby's organs are still developing. You can still keep your house clean and protect your family by using non-toxic cleaners in your home. There are a variety of non-toxic products on the market today to ensure the safety of your loved ones, products that have been tested safe for babies, toddlers, and the environment.

By switching to safer cleaning products you can protect your families from the harmful effects of toxic cleaners. Not only do many of these safe products contain natural ingredients known for their cleaning abilities but they also cost significantly less than their toxic counterparts. Most importantly of all you can help to keep your family healthier by using safe, non-toxic cleaning solutions.
