Expert Author Jake Clark

If you're a beginner cake designer then you'll want to learn the tips and tricks of the pros so you don't have to spend loads of time and money on projects that won't turn out. The first thing anyone who cooks needs are their utensils. Of course you wouldn't try and cut a rib-eye steak with a spoon so why try and do cake decorating with utensils that we're made especially for the craft of cake design and decorating. You can get by without some of these utensils but if you're serious about cake design then you'll need a good set of utensils made especially for that purpose.

Make a call to your creative side and go wild with your design. The sky is the limit it seems with cake decorating these days. It's an opportunity to let your artistic side come out and it also is a way to relieve stress as long as you're going by a guide and not stressing out about it.

Start small and work your way up. Don't try and build a five tier cake to start and if you do try and build a layered and tiered cake then make sure you use pillars. The better you get at cake decorating and baking the less you can use stuff like pillars.
