Bed Bugs - What Are They?

Bed bugs are little bugs that are roughly the size of a lady bug, they even look like lady bug but have totally different colour, while the lady bug is red with black spots or yellow with black spots, the bed bugs have a rusty red colour that is not attractive like the lady bugs colour. The bed bugs usually live in floors and walls near your bed and even in your bed near the pillows or in the cracks in the bed. They are so tiny that they don't require any actual space to live... a small space that is not much visible is the best place they thrive. These bugs are extremely active and powerful they can climb and crawl up to 100ft. without the slightest problem. There have been reports that bed bugs have been found in large quantity hidden in the smoke alarm system and in the electrical sockets and in the dark corners of book cases etc.

They are usually inactive during the day time, they are night creatures and are active only during night time when they come out of hiding places and go to the beds which are warm from the heat form the body and they bite you and drink your blood. It is not difficult to know that your house is infested with them, you will start seeing bites on your body, the bites are painful and don't heal quickly. The bites are usually itchy and are look red as the skin is irritated over there and they also get swollen very quickly. There has been lots of cases where the bites gets infected and they are very unpleasant as they constantly itch and are painful. The bite from this bug needs treatment and some medicines from your doctor usually will solve the itch and the pain fairly quickly.

There are a lot of ways you can treat a bed bug bite but isn't prevention better than cure? You have to take action quickly as soon as you start to see the symptoms and realise that your house is infested with those bugs. First you must make sure that it is the bed bugs that is causing the problem... checking and making sure is not much of a problem. All you have to do is check your mattress with great care not missing any space especially seam lines and folds and you should also check box springs cause it is usually a place where they comfortably hide. You should also check for any holes or rips in the fabric because it is the place from which the bed bugs come out at night to feast on your blood.

They have a different hideout during daytime and the hideout of bed bugs can be found if you look carefully, there hideout is usually small spaces in the floors and walls. You will find dark fecal matter around such hiding places. Other marks of their hiding places are blood spots and fecal matter marks on bed linen and the mattress. Large infestations of bed bugs have a distinct unique pungent small which is somewhat similar to rotting raspberries. One of the most common and effective was to get rid of the this bugs is to use an insecticide that is not too powerful but it should be the right amount of power to get rid of the bed bugs also, the shopkeeper will help you in choosing the insecticide. Care should be taken because these chemicals are dangerous and you are going to spray them on your bed in which you sleep and it might be harmful to the children and pets. So be careful when using insecticide on bed bugs, use only the correct dose as per the manufacturer's instructions and use only in the places which you think those creatures are.
