Becoming an Online Marketer Part 4

Expert Author John Derossett

This step is going to be rather short. Each program works in a different manner so your online marketing website is going to have to be built according to the instructions that came with your software. Additionally, the actual website that you build is going to be dependent upon the topic you have chosen, as well as your own tastes.

So, that said, we are going to skip down to what should be included in the website. You are going to want a contact us page and home page at the very least to start with, as well as the topic, or product page. We are going to be constantly working on this site. Give up any thought of the site ever being complete as per the meaning of the word, because that will never happen.

You will get to a point where you can perhaps slow down working on that one and maybe build another, but it will never truly be done. That's because in the online marketing game, things change regularly, and so you will be doing multiple tasks:

  1. Updating the site on a regular basis
  2. Adding new and fresh content to the site
  3. Building back links to the site and much more.

Thing is, we're talking about building what is called a static website here. What a static website is, is one that stays constant, unless you physically make a change to it. There are other ways to build a website, such as with content management systems and such, but if you start with a static website, you will ultimately build skills that will come in handy later on down the line, such as picking up some HTML tidbits that will be useful to you.

We'll also talk about that more in future lessons too, because you are now in a perpetual state of learning. You will wonder in the beginning how you will ever be able to retain everything. In fact you will forget a lot in the beginning, but as you progress, you will find that you are absorbing information much more quickly than you first believed you would.

Now, get your basic pages built and you'll be able to have a live web presence. From here, we will focus on specific tasks such as the importance of website content, the importance of link building and other such tasks. Some of these will become tedious at times, but they are a necessary evil that absolutely must be completed if you hope to get anywhere in this business.

We've already said that the online marketing business is highly competitive. At best, you have many thousands of others competing for the same traffic that you are. There are ways to get your site to the front of the pack. We'll get you there, but you have to be self-disciplined enough to follow through on your goals!
