Becoming a Leader in Your Network Marketing Organization - Ten Things You Need to Know

One: Do not wait; the time will never be just right.

Do not wait to be asked to take care of business. It is your business, you need to take care of it and it cannot wait till tomorrow or till whenever you think you are ready. You won't know any better how to prospect or sponsor people by reading one more book or by listening to one more CD. Get out and take care of business. The issue here isn't really all that much about making a decision, it is about not making one.

Two: Follow the rule of firsts.

Remember what the first thing is you need to do in your business then do it, consistently. Qualify to get paid, get training, set appointments and recruit customers and associates. Teach them to do what you do. Very simple, but it can suck the life out of you if you procrastinate. Always do the difficult things first, get it out of the way. Set 10 or 20 appointments the first week of every month and consistently follow up on those till the meeting date. That is the worst thing of network marketing, right? Showing the plan is fun. Get the right people involved in your business, team up and get some group think going in a positive manner.

Three: Slam any myths into the ground and break its back.

Make sure you know your business and make sure you know and understand network marketing. If some dummy comes and says "This is a pyramid scheme!" know what to say to him. But first decide if you want this guy in your organization. Is he a leader or an employee, is he a black hole of death or is he a ray of motivation and inspiration that is momentarily misguided? Make sure your team learns what you know so that any nonsense can be dealt with quickly and decisively and with integrity. Never ever compromise the integrity of your business and of your self.

Four: Pay attention to people and become personable.

Large groups are great for residual income and for short term team growth. One large group is deadly for morale and long term growth. Break your organization up into self contained teams or groups of accountability partners. Make sure they all follow the goals and directions of the group but in a small group environment as part of the larger group. People become more attuned to each other and to the needs of others and that is when the full power of network marketing comes to play. By raising morale across the group, we enlarge the collective success of everyone and the residual checks.

Five: Be aware of your competitive environment.

Building a sustainable business isn't easy, it takes hard work. It cannot be done if there isn't trust in the organization that leadership is also looking out for the folks further down in the organization. Nurture these people to become leaders, identify the folks that will help you achieve even greater things and teach them what they need to know to become hugely successful. Be aware of the changing nature of your business. Understand what the latest issues are that affects your business. For example, in my business I need to understand the deregulated energy markets in Texas and Georgia. I need to understand any changes in the rules and regulations that govern businesses like mine doing business in these environments. Ignore this at your own peril.

Six: Deliver on your promises.

As leaders in MLM we have a number of responsibilities. We have a responsibility to our associates to give them the training and support they need to be successful. We have a responsibility to our personal customers to make sure they consistently have a good product experience and I want them to feel totally comfortable to talk to me about their experience. We need to deliver on the promises in our business presentations. If we say something we must deliver otherwise we start our business association with new partners on the wrong foot, immediately... We must work harder than our associates.

Seven: Identify the right business partners to work with.

Everyone knows it is impossible to say who will be your next million dollar earner. It could be the fortune 500 CEO you enroll or it could be a 65 year old retired bank clerk. You never really know until they start working their Network marketing business. The people who set appointments and talk to people consistently are the ones who will become your new leaders. The ones who wait for success to come to them will fall out and go to the next opportunity and do the same. Show and teach your leaders and up and coming leaders the fundamentals of being successful and teach them to duplicate what you do. Cut yourself loose from life sucking black holes.

Eight: What can timing do for you?

Success is all about time and timing. Finding the right opportunity at the right time and spending the right amount of time on building that business so that you can have time for things that are important for you, at that time. It also requires time to spend with your leaders so that they can understand how to use their time to have more time to build their business so that they have more time for what they want to do. I guess you get the picture at this time.

Nine: Celebrate and commiserate.

Everyone is looking for the secret to success in Network Marketing. There is no secret to success. There is only hard work, learning from mistakes, and getting back up on your feet and setting more appointments. When you and your team are successful then celebrate those successes. If there was a failure or something that didn't work, commiserate with one another but then get out of it and start working again. If you enjoy commiserating more than celebrating success, get out of Network marketing because you will make a career out of commiserating with yourself and pulling others down.

Ten: Remake yourself every day.

People will always criticize. They could even criticize you, heaven forbid! Family and friends will probably think you are a dummy. The associate who is the black hole will say you never showed up to help him, and you did. You just didn't do enough for him in his opinion, like sponsoring 10 people for him personally. Well, you know what!? They can go and play in the traffic during rush hour. You don't need them; in fact you definitely don't want them anywhere close to you. As a leader you will get this every day, remake yourself in such a fashion that you learn from these things so that you consistently know and believe that the road you are on is the right one for you and your family. Surround your self with positive people, with positive affirmations, and with positive books and audios. Do not listen to the naysayer.
