Whatever happened to American ingenuity and the spirit of taking risks? Yes, I'm talking about NASA and the global space race. Why is it that we have become so politically correct, so bureaucratic, and so overly safety conscious that we won't even take a risk, even when it's a reasonable risk? What happened to America, what's wrong with everyone, why did everyone stop pushing the envelope? This is simply crazy.
Not long ago, there was a USA Today Article-Interview with Mike Griffin, which was titled; "NASA Administrator Says Space Shuttle Program was a Mistake" and I must say it was interesting article, but I'm still trying to figure out why the space shuttle program was a mistake? Because it costs too much, everything costs a lot, and when I read the article, the title did not do the article justice, because what the article said was that Mike Griffin made the statement; "My opinion is that the shuttle was a design which was extremely aggressive and just barely possible."
Recently, I was watching an MIT video online, and the MIT professor made a comment about that USA Today article, very similar to my comments above, in fact he had the same take on it, and I believe his points are absolutely correct. In fact the MIT professor notes that all space programs are or appear to be extremely aggressive and just barely possible and the professor in the video stated: "so too was Apollo," and he's right. Didn't President Kennedy say "we choose to do these things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard," when he spoke about America's vision to put a man on the moon.
Today, what do we have we have? Weak politicians, weak leaders, and the politically correct, the same people who claim to be intellectuals, those left-leaning liberal-socialists, they are so busy trying to prevent risk, that they have made our society sterile, and they continually make our society and civilization weak. I have news for anyone out there reading this article, the United States of America is not weak, our ancestors built this great country, and we are the greatest nation in the history of mankind, and I ask; what is the problem here?
There is absolutely no excuse that the United States of America does not have a lunar colony, a Martian colony, and human exploring out to the edge of our solar system by now - absolutely, no excuse. In fact with all the great technology we have, all the new material science, and propulsion innovations, I'm amazed that we have not figured out how to transverse time, travel by wormholes, assimilate matter in other locations, and disrupt gravity waves to save fuel for space launches.
The reason we don't have these things now, is not because we don't have the intellect to get there, it is because we have become weak, lazy, politically correct, bureaucratic, and quite frankly we have become fat, dumb, and happy. Some of this is because of our own success, and the rest is because we have weak leadership with no vision, no plan, drowning in political correctness, while they vote present. And that's exactly where we will stay, because the future is for the bold, the strong, and those who choose to go beyond. The future of humankind awaits, there is a whole new world waiting for us, if we dare to take it.
It's time to start thinking like Americans again, be aggressive, push the limits, and never give up.
