Bark - Your Gardeners Would Be Barking Mad Not to Use It

Most gardeners will tell you that there are some jobs gardeners like which others dislike, but there's one gardening job that it would be fair to say is universally loathed - it's obvious - and it's weeding. Bark orders at a gardener to get on with the weeding and the most likely reaction is one of despondency, disappointment and depression.

However, there's one widely available material that is inexpensive, attractive to the eye and can bring a whole host of benefits to the tired and beleaguered gardener and that material is in fact bark.

Bark can be used in gardening to great effect, helping to improve large areas of landscape and the visual qualities of a garden whilst providing insulation and warmth for roots during the cold snaps and frosts over the winter. The other benefit of bark is that it acts as an excellent weed suppressant, saving the gardener those hours of time wandering around with a fork, hoe and bucket removing weeds on knees, round corners and from deep inside flower beds and between shrubberies.

Bark is also a natural bi-product of the forestry industry; it's completely organic, comes from a sustainable source and gives good and lasting cover for a long period of time. Once it begins to breakdown over the years, it helps enrich the soil and can be replaced cheaply. This means that the outlay financially is relatively low and is therefore a cost effective method for dealing with the ongoing issue of weed prevention and eradication.

It may be wise to prepare the soil before adding bark. Gardeners will hate me for saying it, but one last hard hitting weeding session will mean that when the bark is put down, there is even less chance of weeds taking hold again having not the vegetation to sustain them. Remember, without light and the ability to photosynthesize, all plants will eventually die away.

Bark is a great alternative to the job gardeners hate - so, don't bark orders at your gardeners people - order bark for them instead.

When gardening and growing his own vegetables, Paul is never happier. He recommends ordering your bark online from Rolawn, the specialist lawn turf, bark and and topsoil suppliers.
