Back Pain - Causes and Remedies

Expert Author Vince Armstrong

Approximately 80 percent of the population of the Earth will experience back pain at least once in their lives and shockingly 30 million Americans experience back pain on a regular basis.

Back pain can be caused by many different things, which is one reason why it's so prevalent. This type of pain can be the result of sports injuries, car accidents, work place injuries, obesity, pregnancy, stress, herniated disks, osteoarthritis, strains, infection, fracture, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, strained joints and muscle or ligament tears. The pain can be anywhere from a dull pain to sharp or burning to almost unbearable pain.

Luckily, for most people spine pain can be treated or eliminated. There are many causes of spine pain, but there are also many treatments. The most common treatments are chiropractors, massages, exercise, medications, pain management injections, and physical therapy. Hot/cold therapy and aquatic therapy seem to be the most helpful physical therapy remedies for back pain.

Other treatments include acupuncture, yoga, biofeedback, and herbal medicine. However, these treatments aren't the most popular. Spinal injections and medications are not the first courses of action either. If other treatments aren't successful for someone suffering from chronic pain then doctors and specialists may give medication or injections.

Exercise may be a good choice for someone dealing with acute spine pain, which is dull pain that only lasts days or weeks. Physical therapy or exercising can help posture, strengthen structures, help attain normal motion, and improve nerve health.

Spine pain is one of the leading reasons for missed work. So, preventing and properly treating back pain is important. Simple everyday activities can cause back pain therefore everyone should be careful when lifting heavy objects, performing any forceful movement and don't twist in an unusual manner. Always wear comfortable shoes and have a comfortable desk chair at work.
