Many parents approach having a baby without having any specific wishes other than that the baby shall be healthy. Nothing else really matters most. However, sometimes some couples come up with the idea of trying to conceive a baby with a specific gender - be it boy or girl. The reason behind this wish can have many ideas. Be it that the couple already has a baby girl or baby boy and now wants to have the exact opposite sex for the new baby.
Other reasons can be more traditional in nature. If a family does not have any boys at all it could be that a family name entirely disappears if the overall family tree is small or very diverse. Even though it is more common these days that a groom takes on the brides name under certain circumstances or that the bride keeps her birth name, it is not a guarantee that this really happens. The only way to carry on the family name is by having baby boy. But again, this might be a very traditional approach.
Some families seem to be very gender specific when it comes to babies. In my own family there are only boys and it could be genetics related that this is the case for my entire family. My dad, who divorced from my Mom and then married another woman had 2 more baby boys with his new wife, too. I have to admit, I never asked him about this topic though. I could image that he would have been very happy if one of the kids would have turned out to be a girl, but again, I did not ask him really.
There are many obscure methods advertised mainly on the Internet. Some of these methods promise to influence the way how mother nature "decides" on a baby's gender when a couple is trying to conceive. These "methods for gender prediction" start with certain positions when having baby making sex. It continues on with what either the woman or the man eats within 48 hours before trying to conceive. The list can go on and on - there is really almost no limit of what you can try.
However, I have to say it - it takes a while until you find out and what then? What if it is the "wrong" gender that your future baby has? You cannot just turn the clock back and start over. While I think it might be worthwhile to try some of the basic ideas about baby gender prediction when trying to conceive, I personally think that a couple should not go overboard with their attempts of having a baby with a certain gender. In the end mother nature will make the decision anyway. For me the most important thing is that a baby is healthy.
Since baby gender prediction is a much more complex topic - especially when trying to conceive, you might want to try to predict how your baby will look like by gaining access to a service that uses FBI-grade facial recognition software. This facial recognition software will merge the pictures of mom and dad (you can use your own pictures or even celebrity pictures for the fun of it) and reverse the aging process.
