Baby Crib Safety - 4 Factors to Be Considered

There are many items of furniture that will need to be purchased before the new addition to your family arrives. One particular item that is very important to buy is a crib as this will be where you baby will spend a great deal of their time during the first few months once you bring them home from the hospital. So when purchasing this item baby crib safety should be tantamount in your mind.

To help you to ensure that the crib that you purchase is one that your baby will remain safe once you settle them into theirs there are certain factors that need to be taken into consideration. Below we take a look at just what some of the baby crib safety factors are.

Factor 1 - The mattress should not only be firm but fit tightly into the crib. This will help to ensure that the baby won't become trapped between the frame of the crib and it and lead to some injury.

Factor 2 - As you assemble the crib make sure that none of the screws, brackets or slats are missing, broken, loose or have not been installed correctly. If you don't assemble it properly then this could lead to the baby become trapped between the various parts and may cause injury or even death.

Factor 3 - The corner posts on the crib should not be more than 1/16th" high. If they are then the chances of the baby's clothes catching on them is increased and again could result in injury or death to the child.

Factor 4 - Although the cribs that come with cut outs in the head or foot boards may look pleasing they again can lead to injury to the child. There is a big possibility of the child's head become trapped in the gap provided by the cut out.
