The number of people that had been affected by the plight known as bad breath, or halitosis cannot be counted. No matter what is done to avoid bad breath, the sad truth will always remain that we, humans, are prone to getting breath that smells bad. Even so, that is not reason enough to prevent the countless researches and experiments being done in order to look for ways to avoid bad breath, permanently and properly.
Granted, most of the readers of this article will probably be old or even dead by the time the miracle cure for halitosis can be invented, there are simple and practical ways out there of which can be done right away in order to avoid bad breath or halitosis.
First of all, in order to avoid bad breath, it is important to have the proper dental hygiene. Brushing the teeth alone is not enough, since only a portion of the oral bacteria responsible for bad breath and other gum problems is located there. Most oral bacteria are concentrated in the cheeks and tongue, both of which are often neglected by most people. So, it is important to buy a toothbrush that has a check and tongue cleaner or scraper, so as both the cheek and tongue can be cleaned properly. It also is important to use a dental floss regularly. Flossing helps take out the debris and other food particles stuck between teeth, without misaligning the teeth, unlike what toothpicks do.
Dental hygiene also helps to avoid bad breath, especially since if one has proper dental hygiene, gum related problems can be avoided, as well as tonsillitis or tonsil stones, which are born out of the poor dental habits of most people that suffer them. If one brushes regularly and properly and flosses their teeth, then the chances of developing both tonsillitis and halitosis are very slim.
Also, it is important to be picky with food. For starters, indulging too much of food that has garlic or onion with them will definitely lead to an awfully smelling breath. So will eating too much meat, whether it is pork, chicken or fish, especially since meat takes much longer to digest and process and will result into your breath smelling bad for longer times.
There are also temporary cures and fixes that help to avoid bad breath. Breath fresheners are pretty common, especially since they come in quite cheap and have proven to be effective time and time again in freshening one's breath. However, it is important to remember that these fresheners only address the problem with bad breath, and does not solve the problem all throughout.
In order to really avoid bad breath, proper dental hygiene is a definite must, as well as visiting the dentist often and avoiding food that are notorious for their breath-altering abilities.
