Auto Body Kits - What to Think About Before Installing

When it comes to installing auto body kits, you have many choices. Each part of a body kit might even have a different way that it is installed on your car just depending on where the piece goes. For example, you might attach the front bumper with bolts, but attach a side vanity piece with double sided tape. Some of the more advanced kits and modifications might require welding.

Depending on the body kit, which manufacturer the kit is from, the vehicle the kit is designed for, and the location of the piece, the parts might be included for you to do the installation or you may need to purchase the parts. Either way, they should all be standard parts that can be found at any good auto or hardware store. When deciding on the auto body kit to purchase, you should find out how the pieces install onto your particular vehicle and if the installation parts included. You should also consider the level of experience that you have. Does it need welded? Have you ever welded before? If you don't consider this upfront, you may spend a lot more money having someone else install the kit for you.

When installing an auto body kit, one of the most critical aspects is paying close attention to details. Remember that you are installing this to make your car look fantastic. How are you going to achieve that look when you have misaligned parts, gaps, scrapes, or parts that just don't look right together? Installing a kit like this requires time and patience, trial and error. Don't expect to be able to install a kit over a weekend. While you might be able to get all of the pieces on in that short amount of time, you probably will be disappointed with the final outcome. Take your time. Dry fit the pieces. Have somebody assist you by holding the piece in place so you can make measurements and look at it from all angles to make sure you haven't missed even the tiniest detail. Then check it all over again.

It doesn't matter that you bought this kit specifically for your vehicle. You are more than likely going to have to make some kind of modifications to the pieces. No two vehicles alike are exactly alike, even coming off of the manufacturing line! Then you add the wear and tear of driving the vehicle and all of a sudden your stock vehicle isn't quite stock anymore. That's the reason you need to dry fit your pieces. You may find that you need to shave a little bit off the bumper to make it line up correctly. Or you may need to drill a new hole for mounting. You may even have to go so far as to do a little body work on the vehicle itself just to get everything looking perfect. Plan for this and take your time! It's well worth it when it's done.

Installing an auto body kit is not for the faint of heart, but if you like a small challenge and want the satisfaction of knowing that you created this vehicle yourself, it's well worth doing. Search around the internet for body kits. Gather more information. Make friends with the mechanics at the local body shops that deal in customizations. Then go for it!
