In fact, when I showed my friends how to do it, they were surprised that there isn't some complex method to picking up women after all, but rather just a simple change of "attitude" for both her and you. --You are what THEY want- Here's the thing... a lot of guys look at women as being some prize they can win, or something they have to have. Basically, they approach women with the idea that the girl is something they need, whereas it should really be the other way around. In the end, you should be showing the girl that she needs you, and if you don't, she will feel like she owns you and will be extremely bored around you. You need to show her that you are something she should go after, and it's actually quite easy.

--No outcome- If you walk into it not expecting an outcome, which is the first key, because you will be more focused on having fun, and more focused on the moment, which in turn allows her to have fun. Consider it like this: she didn't just get all dressed up and spend all that time on herself to look great just to go out and have a disastrous night. She came out to have fun too, just like you did, so show her that time.

--Throw those bogus regular approaches out the window- In fact, completely rule out your regular approach tactics, and just try something new. Approach her and say something "cocky", and then give her a compliment but retract it. In fact, don't even be afraid to tease her and play around with her, because the more you do this, the less uncomfortable she will feel, and in turn, the less likely she will be to turn you down.

--Those standards- Your confidence can play a big key in attracting woman to you, and your standards have a lot to do with it. If you see a really great looking lady, and you start drooling over her within the first few seconds, she will not be too intrigued.

But, if you tell her something like "Those are a great pair of shoes, but it's too bad I have seen 3 other women wearing them, and with a better outfit too", you will find that she immediately will feel stunned, shocked, and emotionally drawn by you, simply because you have just shown her that she doesn't meet your standards.
