Assisting Nature With Hummingbird Feeders

With natures creatures now looking to us for assistance, what better way to aid them than to set up your own feeding station. The little hummers are such a joy to watch that assisting them with a feeder will be a pleasure for you and your entire family.

A feeding station is a simple thing to do. Find a feeder that is eye catching to you and the hummer will also think so. Many styles are available. Next choose a location where you will be able to watch the birds and where they will have room to escape if need be. You may want to purchase nectar or make it yourself.

Hummingbird Nectar can be made by combining 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. I suggest you boil it to prevent separation. Let is cool. Fill your feeder and refrigerate the balance for the next feeding. Please use only white granulated sugar as other sugars are not good for the hummers. During the heat of summer, please clean the feeder and replace the nectar every few days for the health of the birds. (Would you want stale and/or sower food?)

Now that you have your feeder with fresh nectar in it, it's time to relax and allow the hummers to find you. If you are in an area that others are feeding, you will not have to wait long. However, you may have to play a waiting game to see how soon they find you. Please be patient, as the joy will out last the wait.

Thank you for your help with one of nature's smallest creatures.
