Frank Collins was a keen yachtsman, and in 1978, a Renault car dealer in Sydney. With a marine background and a career in engineering, it was inevitable that Collins would break in to the world of marine diesel engines.

In 1983, Renault in France quit the marine market to concentrate on the automotive market. Renault Marine Diesel was sold to Nanni Diesel Engines. With only a change of name, the same staff produced the same engines in the same factory based in Bordeaux.

Peter Collins joined his fathers company in 1984, and in 1989 the automotive business was sold with all efforts being placed on the Marine division.
