Article Writing Tips - Picking Keywords
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

If you're going to take the time to write an article, you want the article to be read. At least I do. Unfortunately, with all the content on the Internet, this isn't an easy task. You can write an article on a subject that has thousands of other articles out there on the very same subject. How are you going to get YOURS read? Well, the easiest way is through the keywords that you choose in order to get your articles in front of the people who are looking for them.

This isn't a subject that I really talk about often because when I write I don't look for particular keywords. I write whatever comes to my mind and let the chips fall where they may. Of course I also have a pretty loyal band of followers who would read a Betty Crocker recipe if I wrote it...and I'm no baker. But for most people, picking keywords and properly sprinkling them throughout your article will greatly help in getting your article read. The question is, how do you go about doing this?

Naturally, I can't go over every possible scenario, so let me give you an example and hopefully, you'll learn from it.

Let's say you want to write an article on acne treatments. Now, obviously this is going to depend a lot on what slant you're going to take with the article itself. But let's say you decide that you're going to start with what causes acne, then move into traditional treatments and then finally alternative treatments for those who don't want to take harmful drugs. The first thing you want to do is decide what your MAIN focus is. In this case, it's the alternative treatments. So one keyword phrase you might choose is "alternative acne treatment" and similar phrases.

But what about the folks who are looking primarily for the causes of acne? You want them to read your article as well because there is a good chance that they're looking for causes because they want to also find out how to treat or even prevent acne. In this case, you might want to pick out keywords like "acne causes" and "acne prevention."

Okay, let's stop there because we have enough for our example. Now it comes time to write our article. In the first paragraph, we want to get all three keyword phrases in so that the article gets ranked for those keyword phrases. My intro paragraphs usually tell the reader what they're about to read. This is a great way to actually summarize what the article is going to be about. So this is how I would write the intro paragraph for these keyword phrases.

"Acne causes range from poor diet to dirty hands. Acne prevention is as important, if not more so, than acne treatment. In this article, I'm going to go over the common typical causes of acne, how to prevent it and then finally some natural acne treatments so that you don't have to rely on dangerous drugs."

There you go. You've gotten all your main keywords into your first paragraph and have done it naturally.

Map your main keywords out and then plan out your first paragraph around them and you should have no trouble writing your article around your chosen keywords.
