It's happened to everyone: one day, she's your best pal, maybe even wing-person at the bar. The next day, you're wondering why she isn't the one you're dressing up for to go out with, or buying flowers for on the way to pick her up.

You've fallen for your friend. Now what?

There are a few ways to handle it, most of which depends on how she acts towards you at the moment. If you're clearly in the "you're like a brother to me!" zone, there's nothing you can do.

Suffer quietly, and go have meaningless sex with the girl at the end of the bar. If, however, she's been open to certain gestures of affection or laughs at all of your jokes (even the horribly unfunny ones), you may have a chance.

Start dropping hints. Turn up the physical contact between the two of you - spontaneous hugs, holding hands crossing the street, any little thing that will bring you more into her awareness is good for you. Make sure that the way you talk to her also moves beyond just friend territory; ask about her day at work and remember what she says, compliment her on what she's wearing, etc.

Finally, talk to her. If she's receptive to anything you've done up to this point, chances are she may be ready to move your relationship forward. Honesty is always best in these situations, so you're not giving out mixed signals. You're friends for a reason, so even if she isn't interested in you that way, you should still be able to talk about it without your friendship suffering.
