Are You Absolutely Positively Certain That You Are Not a Sugar Addict?

On the other hand, the dictionary describes an addiction as "the persistent, compulsive use of a substance that is know to be harmful".  This description is certainly exact for a lot of people who have a very intimate and crooked relationship with sweets.  If you think that you don't belong to this group, you certainly are absolutely aware that you are harming yourself by ingesting large amounts of sugar, but you cannot seem to be able to stop.

Let's go into further details at some common signs:

You need to have sugar at regular times during the day

It's 9:00 and you need to eat sweets.  Or it could be every day at 3:00 or late at night.  It is quite possible that you are relying on sugar to live through some emotions or to elevate your energy level (so you think) and always at those exact times of day.

You think of sugar all day long

You could be in a more dependent state if you think you need sugar all day long.   You suddenly get a fierce urge to eat a chocolate bar.  You would never drink your coffee black.  You always have a glass of juice or a can of soda, so you will never have to suffer not having your BFF sugar  waiting at your fingertips. 

If any of these are included in your your daily routine,  it's very likely that you have a dependence on sugar.  Let's go even further.

You have a relentless sweet tooth

You're socializing and the sweet foods attract you more than healthier choices.  You always need to have dessert at the end of your meal.  You cannot think of turning down a piece of triple dark chocolate mousse cake or resist a second serving of your favorite pie.  

You feel agitated when you try to cut back

This one could be your warning signal.   If you feel incredibly uncomfortable when you try to cut back on your sugar intake, you could be experiencing withdrawal symptoms.  You get  anxious, moody, irritable, have headaches. You usually give your body a toxic substance and now you're trying to deprive it and that is the way it will thank you.

The more you refrain from having sweets, the easier it will get to stay sugar free. You will be able to feel symptom free in a short while.

You should know that if you give in and eat sugar to alleviate your withdrawal symptoms, your cravings will only get stronger.  Remember that it will be an unpleasant experience to go through,  but once you are sugar free, you will feel less tired and you will even face fewer cravings.  Is that not worth it?
