Koi fish is considered to be one of the most elegant varieties of fish. They always shine with bright colors and if you look at them in the pond, you will be amazed to watch their graceful and confident swimming style.
But many of you may not know about their entertaining abilities. You may have goldfish in your aquarium but they are not social. On the other hand, Koi fish are friendly with the other species and also with the owner! They always like to be in the large group of fish and they will certainly please your guests in your party.
You can show many tricks to your guests performed by Koi fish in your pond. One of such tricks is their skill to eat from your hands. This is one of the most important attractions for kids. Many fish-keepers have started with Koi fish looking at this trick. If you see someone feeding fish with the hands, you think it's really a cool thing. Well, you can also do it with some practice.
Read carefully the following tips -
1. Feeding is the most important activity in fish-keeping. The main interest of any pet fish is food. The fish cannot understand any other attractions to come to you.
2. Fix a spot for feeding them. Remember, it should not be near the waterfall. Once you decide the spot, do not change it any time. Location is very important because the fish will understand your intention of feeding them if you stand at that particular place. If you change it, you will not be able to convince them your intentions.
3. Initially, drop a small portion of food from that place and see the reaction of the fish. Continue to feed them in small installments to see whether they show any interest or not.
4. The hungriest out of them will pick up the food first and will start eating. Others will follow soon.
5. Do not go away from that place while the fish is eating. The fish must see you while they are picking up their food and eating.
6. Continue this process for a week. Gradually take your hands nearer to the surface of the water. After a couple of weeks, the fish will get used to the process and they will rush to the spot for grabbing the food.
7. Do not lose your patience. After all, you are teaching the fish! Eventually, the fish will relate you to food. You can gradually bring them closer to you by offering them small portions of food.
8. After some days, you can put your hands in the water while the fish are eating. If they are not scared, you can assume that you have made a good progress.
9. After another couple of days, they will start coming close to your hands because by now they realize that you are bringing them food and you can be trusted.
10. Now you can take a test. Just put your hands in the water without any food. They will try to attract your attention by nudging your hands. Sooner, you will realize that they start jumping as well as splashing when you are approaching the pond!
Now is the time to show your skills to your friends. It will be a nice opportunity to present your fish before them and get recognition to your skills.
