There are many different types of herbal remedies. Some herbal remedies have proven to very effective such as St. John's wort and passion flower for anxiety/mild depression and homeopathic herbal remedies for ADHD. On the other hand others have not. A couple of examples would be tea tree oil or aloe vera based treatments for fighting Athlete's foot or quickly eliminating ring worm.
Nevertheless, overall these types of remedies when purchased from a reputable company who pays special attention to preparation and safety can prove to be very valuable, especially when convention medications are failing to do the trick, or the extra baggage in the form of side effects are simply too unpleasant to justify their continued use.
What is in the term prescription medications?
I often am somewhat amused when medical doctors try to label herbal remedies a quackery. Sure, they have done their time in medical school with most being quite bright individuals who are genuinely concerned about the health and wellbeing of their patients.
But the truth of the matter is that few have any training in the field of herbal remedies or alternative medicine. So with a limited understanding of herbal remedies, and years of conventional training, arriving at a different conclusion is just illogical.
If we were to look turn the tables on these well well-read individuals and evaluate what they are really peddling what would we come up with?
The honest answer would be an expertise in diagnoses combined with a proficiency in prescribing chemical solutions. That's right, virtually all prescription medications are chemicals that produce a least some negative consequences inside our bodies.
Don't get me wrong, some of these chemical solutions are not only necessary but improve both life expectancy and quality. But what seems to be happening (at least from my point of view) is that in search of profits an endless array of drugs designed to treat every condition imaginable are flooding the market.
What ends up happening is that you are now seeing people who are taking ten or more prescription medications a day, many of which are drugs prescribed to treat the side effects of other drugs. In other words, we as a society are moving away from preventative medicine, herbal remedies, and natural supplements in favor of side effect riddled chemical medicine.
Practicing this type of medicine puts a serious burden on our healthcare system and tends to create the illusion that good health can be acquired solely through the use of prescription drugs. It simply cannot!
Your body needs help. One interesting fact is as we age our immune system weakens and our hearts ability to pump blood is continually diminishing resulting in a 50 percent loss of pumping power by the age of 80.
*Can prescription medications help you in these areas? Probably not!
*Can herbal remedies help you in these areas? Maybe, especially when it comes to immune system function.
*Can herbal remedies combined with diet, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle help in these areas? The answer is almost always yes!
Certainly, herbal remedies are not for everyone and your doctors opinion should definitely be considered, but without a doubt the most valuable tool you have when looking for answers is knowledge.
By educating yourself about the advantages of a healthy lifestyle combined with herbal remedies/ alternative remedies you will be able to make the best decision as it applies to you and your long term health.
