An anniversary gift must be given great thought. Your spouse can usually tell when a present has been purchased without much consideration. Gifts usually fall into two main categories: things that are intended to be used quite frequently and things that are intended to be keepsakes. Though the two can be mixed, one gift rarely ticks both boxes.  But given the choice between one or the other, anniversary gifts should almost always be intended to be keepsakes. After all, you wouldn't buy your wife a TV for your anniversary would you? But you might buy her some personalised pottery like a signing plate for example.
