An Ice Cream Maker Can Be Lots of Churning Fun - Or Not!
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

If you want to make your own homemade ice cream, you have many different models and types of machines from which to choose. They also come in a wide range of prices and sizes. Before you choose one, you should give some thought to what your needs are. If you are shopping for a home version, you will generally be choosing between the type that uses rock salt and ice, and the type that uses a freezable canister. There are certain advantages to both types.

The type that uses a freezable canister is very convenient, and a lot less messy to use than the type that uses rock salt and ice. However, if you have a need to make a lot at one time, you might be better off with a maker that uses the rock salt and ice. This is because most of the home models that use the freezable canister can only make about a quart and a half of ice cream at one time. The canister also needs to refreeze for about eight hours before you can make a second batch. However, for the average home user, the type of ice cream maker with a freezable canister is a good choice.

For the ultimate in convenience, you can get the type that has both a freezable canister and runs on electricity, without the need to hand-crank. An ice cream maker with a freezable canister is less expensive to operate, because you do not have to buy rock salt in order to freeze your yummy treats! Whether you choose one that uses rock salt and ice, or a freezable canister, there are certain advantages to getting one that runs on electricity, as opposed to using a hand crank.

First, you will get a more consistently frozen ice cream, because the machine turns at a constant speed, instead of the stopping and starting that occurs with a hand cranked model. An electric version also stops when the ice cream reaches the correct consistency, which takes the guesswork out. However, sometimes a hand crank model can be fun, and can provide entertainment for the family in addition to the delicious ice cream it makes. Whichever style you choose, you will enjoy being able to make your own frozen treats whenever you want to.

One of the advantages of owning an ice cream maker is being able to make healthy frozen treats. Store-bought ice cream is usually high in fat, and contains artificial ingredients. When you make your own, you can use low fat milk, yogurt, fruits, and other natural ingredients and you can even make frozen treats for those who have dietary restrictions. Moreover, you have no limit to the number of flavors you can make.
