An Expert's Guide to Building Links

Building links that point back to your website is the only way you are going to get traffic to find your website through the search engines. By building links, your website will naturally move up the search engine rankings over time. There is a right way and wrong way to go about picking up links and I have a few pieces of advice that I would like to share with you.

The goal of a back linking strategy is to pick up quality links from several different sources over the course of time. You want to make your links appear as natural as possible so your website does not get thrown into the Google sandbox.

This happens to many people who pick up a bunch of back links all at once and from only a few sources. That being said, you must know that easy does it wins this game. Get back links from places that Google respects rather than a fishy blog network or back linking scheme designed to get your website indexed and ranked highly as fast as possible. Sure this may work temporarily but you need to ask yourself if those back links are truly going to stand the test of time and be around that long into the future. Here are a few ways in which you can pick up back links respectfully and ones that will continue to move your website up the search engine rankings and stay there.

Article Marketing:

Probably the method I use most to get back links. Quality submitted articles to highly publicized article directories have the chance to help you pick up links naturally and virally well into the future. Since these article directories are so used by frequent visitors and webmasters, you stand a chance that your article will most likely be picked up and spread all over the Internet. Concentrate on quality and consistency and don't be afraid to submit one article to many article directories. Be sure to read the submission rules before you submit an article.

Blog Commenting:

This is one of the easiest and fastest ways to pick up quality back links. The blogs you comment on will allow you to leave your website with an anchor text by submitting the name or keywords in the name category. You can find blogs in whatever niche you are interested in to pick up back links to your website. Make sure that you comment on all different variety of blogs that the Internet features. There are even.gov and.edu blogs that you can find to comment and leave a back link as well.

Other Methods:

Making sure that you spread out your back links is the key in this strategy. Pick up back links from hub pages like Squidoo as well as social networking sites like Digg. Even though some of these social networking sites and hub pages might be a "no follow" link, it is still recommended that you get it. No follow links in my honest opinion are just as important as picking up the do follow links. Remember we're going after natural and natural means you will get links from follow and no follow.

Stay consistent with your back linking efforts and make sure that you are changing up your anchor text around 20% of the time. This is important because this is how the search engines can tell if your links are spreading naturally or not.

The absolute most important advice that you need to follow though is this...be patient yet persistent with your efforts. You aren't going to rank for a tough keyword and get thousands of visitors overnight, but soon enough you will be rewarded as long as you continue to work at it knowing that it truly will work over time.
