A dominant American cultural pattern that was omitted form the test is American’s feeling of dominance. Many Americans feel they are superior to other countries and cultures. It also applies within the boarders of the United States. Everyone wants to be the best. This feeling incorporates the other dominant patterns including competition, work and leisure, materialism, and individualism.

Our involvement in the United Nations helps my choice. The United States is the major participant in the United Nations. We have a feeling of getting involved in other country problems and crises whether they want are help and participation or not. The United States feels they are so superior to other countries that they should be the world’s peacekeeper and baby sitter.

Individually, within the boarders of the country, Americans strive to dominate others. Sports teams don’t just want to win, they want to humiliate other teams. Politicians use mud slinging campaigns against each other in a winner takes all humiliation war. Group projects always note the individuals who made the most contributions and strongest efforts. The dominant one in the group always stands and receives recognition.

Domination is a cultural pattern Americans strive for. Whether it is in dealing with other nations in foreign policy or within the boarders Americans are dominant. They try to be the best with any means necessary to be on top. This dominant feeling could also be associated with arrogance.
