There is a stigma attached to Valentines Day. If you're alone on this day, people will think you're un-dateable, a loser, destined to remain single for the rest of your life. Well that is a bunch of...well something I'm not going to type here. Valentines day is just another day of the year. This year it will be Tuesday...a Tuesday! What is so special about a Tuesday? It has been glamorized by the card companies and the service industry, so that people will spend money on things they don't need. If you're planning on being alone this Valentines Day, don't fret. You can have a fantastic time all by yourself. In fact this may be the best Valentines ever.
Valentines Day should be all about you. When you're with someone, the day is about showering each other with gifts like chocolates and other presents. When you're by yourself, just take all of those presents, and given them to yourself. Do something nice for yourself. Use Valentines, as an excuse to splurge on something you'll really enjoy. Get a massage, get a mani/pedi, buy that expensive bag you've had your eye on. Why not? Why does this day have to be about loving other people, can't it be about loving yourself too?
Another great tip is to wait until February 15th, to scoop up some great deals on Valentine's chocolate. No, I'm not suggesting you buy your weight in chocolate and get sick the next day eating it. However, why not splurge a little and buy a chocolate heart to eat while watching your favorite movie. It's only one piece of candy, you'll work it off the next day at the gym. The price is right, and we all know chocolate is good - it's a win/win.
Lastly, don't listen to what your friends might be saying. "I have a great guy, I can set you up with." Or, "You should go to a bar to find a guy." On Valentines day...are they serious? While I've attempted to cut down the stigma attached with Valentines Day in this article, the fact of the matter is that it exists. Meeting someone on V-Day is a disaster waiting to happen. Love is in the air...whatever that means, and by meeting someone under those pretenses, you're setting yourself up for something that may...or may not...be there. Maybe things will work out great, but maybe it would just turn into a one-night stand. If that's what you want, well then by all means, go for it. For those looking for something more serious, however, be aware of Valentines Day.
So I hope I haven't soured Valentines Day too much for everyone, just felt like putting a few things out in the open. For my friends who will be with a loved one this Valentines Day, "Have a great time." For the rest of us..."Enjoy the day, and don't forget to splurge. A little extra money spent on your own happiness is money well spent!"
