All About Garden Koi Ponds

Taking care of Japanese koi fish is probably one of the most interesting kinds of hobby. It does not only require money to maintain it but also patience. When we talk about koi, it is important that we also talk about its habitat. One of the most eye-catching habitats of koi fish among all others is the garden koi pond because it gives a comfortable and tranquil feeling to the surrounding especially with the koi fish swimming around and deep into the pond.

Garden koi pond, from the name itself is a pond that is located in the garden area. It is chosen by most koi fish enthusiasts and homemakers because it highlights and enhances the beauty of Japanese koi fish. Considering that some people may only put their koi in an aquarium or tank, those fish cannot be appreciated well. Aside from that, since a tank or aquarium can be relatively smaller than a garden koi pond, the potential growth of the koi is limited. Most importantly, it is nice to capture the beauty of the fish swimming around the water plants and flowers.

Although a garden koi pond is more beautiful compared to other types of ponds and aquariums, it is quite difficult to maintain it. Considering that it is located in the garden, a lot of particles such as falling leaves and dried flowers can fall into the water. Thus, it needs to be taken out the water so that it cannot be ingested by the koi fish. In doing so, this can be done by proper filtration or by using a net to take it out. The beauty of the pond does not only depend by the fish but also by the water plants in it. It is ideal not to put a lot plants in the pond as this too can ba food to the fish. Avoid putting pesticides to the plants to avoid water contamination and change of water pH level as this can kill your fish.

Feeding the koi is such a delightful feeling, but you must take note that the more the fish eat the more it will expel wastes that can increase the ammonia content of the water which can also cause fish kill. It is ideal to feed your fish twice a day.

Lastly, a garden koi pond can pond is a great escape after a long and tiring day. The beauty itself gives you a more relaxed feeling. If your pond is situated under a big and sturdy tree, try putting a hammock, so that you can lay on it and rest for awhile.
