Alaskan Malamute Training

The Alaskan Malamuteis a powerfully built dog with a broad, deep chest, large bones and a broad head.

This breed of dog prefers winter climate but adapts well to warm climate and is very much an outdoor dog.

Malamutes needs a lot of exercise so be sure you either have a large enough yard or have the time exercise them daily.

The outer coat is thick and course and should be brushed regularly.

An Alaskan Malamute usually weighs 85 pounds to 100 pounds.

This dog is very self-confident, strong-willed, affectionate and friendly. The breed usually gets along with the other pets of the family well if raised together.

Proper training requires spending time with your dog. This will increase the bonding and if the dog is bonded with you it becomes easy to adapt them to any habit.

Always keep a positive attitude with your Malamute. With lots of patience and praise your Malamute will respond well to your commands. Never yell at your dog.

Start training as soon as you get your dog home.

As with almost every breed of dog they have a pack mentality so you must establish yourself as the "alpha dog" from the start. If you don't do this early on, your Alaskan Malamute training will be that much more difficult.

Another important training tip is to teach your dog to come. The most important factor associated with the come command is that it must be connected to something positive. Never ever punish the dog if he does not come but offer him a reward when he does.

Before buying your dog, read and know all you can about this beautiful animal.

With over 40 years of personal experience, and over 14 years as a professional breeder, and extensive research over that time here is my recommendation.
