Airsoft Vest For Sniper - Should Sniper Gear Include An Airsoft Vest?

Apart from the sniper-specific weapons, a sniper needs a specific airsoft vest alternative and a special set of sniper gear. Snipers need a stable platform, which is their body, to fire accurately at long distances. This means snipers spend a lot of their time in the prone position. This makes it very uncomfortable to wear a standard airsoft vest when you're always lying on your stomach.

Creating a good sniper load-out can be difficult because of this dilemma. Generally, chest rigs and airsoft vests are not a wise choice for a sniper to place their equipment on. If you put your gear on your front side and go prone on the ground, you will only be smashing your gear into the dirt and creating stability issues. You don't want to be distracted by things like this during combat. Make sure your equipment, whether attached on an airsoft vest, or not is strategically placed for speed and efficiency.

For snipers, we have to think differently by placing our equipment on the sides and back for easy reach, minimal movement, and comfort while on the ground. For this type of set up, we recommend using an ALICE type system. It will keep your front clear for you to be on the ground in a stable, comfortable position. Being a sniper, you use your body as your shooting platform. Create as much contact to the surface of the ground as you can. This will increase your accuracy.

Another important piece of equipment you should consider getting are kneepads. You will be on your knees a lot when you're not firing in the prone position. This will protect your knees, which is very important, and kneepads will keep your pants from getting wet. You can get a good set of kneepads for about $20. Make sure they are comfortable, don't slip much, and are durable.

One more tip for those making ghillie suits. Create your ghillie suit with clothing a size larger than you are. So if you wear medium BDUs then make your ghillie suit with size large. This will give you comfort, ease of movement, and more space to put your camouflage on the outside.

So to recap, snipers should probably not use an airsoft vest, unless they can load all their gear on the sides and back. Remember, the vest will only cover your ghillie suit's camouflage so that's another drawback to wearing a MOLLE vest as a sniper. Also, get a good set of kneepads since your knees will be on the ground often. This will save you a lot of pain and injury and should not really affect your mobility either.
