Airsoft Tips for the Beginner on a Budget

Airsoft can be a fun sport and you get some good exercise running around shooting. But most of us don't get into airsoft for the exercise, we do it because guns are cool! It is a safe way to get some action without firing a real gun.

You can spend as much money as you want on airsoft, and if you are serious you may want to invest in a cool outfit and a nice gun or two (or more as your collection grows). But it doesn't have to cost a lot to get started with airsoft. Here are some tips for a beginner/budget airsofter:

First of all, you don't need any special outfit. Sure a vest with ammo pouches would come in handy and a helmet and some camo would be cool, but you don't need them. You can play in your blue jeans and a jacket if you want too. As far as your outfit is concerned, all you really need is a sturdy pair of airsoft goggles. That spetznaz costume or ghillie suit can wait for now.

When it comes to guns, you don't need to spend a lot of money either. If you are on a tight budget, then go with spring powered airsoft guns. Electric and gas powered guns are more powerful, shoot farther, and are fully automatic but they also cost a lot more. Spring guns need to be cocked before each shot, so they have a slower fire rate. But they are powerful and accurate too, and they are much cheaper.

A good spring pistol will only cost around $20. The UHC 1911 is a great airsoft pistol that makes a great secondary weapon for any airsofter, and is especially good for beginners since it is so cheap and reliable. Depending on your style you could also get a spring powered USP, Glock, M9 or other gun for about the same price. Spring guns are slow, but are great for practice and improving your accuracy.

There are spring powered rifles too, so take a look around. But for your primary weapon, you will want something with a faster rate of fire, so pick a gas powered pistol or an AEG (automatic electric gun). WE-Tech and KJW make excellent gas pistols for around $100, and JG has some very nice rifles for around $100 too (M4, G36, AK47).

One other thing to note is that most airsoft shotguns are spring powered, meaning they are fairly cheap. But they can also be very good too, especially for beginners. Get a sturdy shotgun and you are ready for close quarter battles!

So some people want to spend a lot of money on their airsoft gear, but you don't have to. You can spend $400 for a single gun and then spend another few hundred on your outfit, but you certainly don't have to.

You can get a spring airsoft gun, an AEG, and goggles for around $150. You might not have the best "costume" but you have everything you need to kick butt on the battlefield. And of course, you could save even more money by getting a spring rifle instead of an AEG.
