"There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed." Pollution is growing day by day be it from vehicular or factory emission, is affecting our environment in a very big way. To do their role in lowering pollution, the auto sector is coming up with models of cars which can run on electricity, battery, CNG and even solar power. Maruti Suzuki, one of India's largest car manufacturers are planning to roll out all their existing models in CNG.
Another auto giant Fiat is also looking to come forth with CNG compliant cars in the coming years. The model which they are looking to roll out in CNG is the Grande Punto which is expected to hit the roads by 2011. There were some rumours about Fiat actually venturing in the CNG part but it all turned true when they displayed a prototype of the CNG run car in the auto expo this very year. Mr. Tarun Khanna, the head of marketing, Fiat India in his talk with the media said that they plan to launch the CNG version of the Punto in between April and June next year.
Fiat has just mentioned that they would be coming out with CNG variant cars but hasn't so far issued any technical specifications of any sort. They are probably waiting for the right time do discuss in detail about all this.
To just give an idea as to what the car would be, it is expected that the CNG Punto will be having a 1.2 litre engine. The price is expected to be a bit steeper than the one available now. The picture will get clearer somewhat as to how the public reacts to CNG cars. But no matter who says what, CNG is one way to curb the rising pollution levels by cars.
