After A Weight Training Workout Is Sugar Good For You? Bizarre Stuff

The internet is the 21st century wild west. Rumors get spread like wildfire and it is so hard to know who is telling the truth. You could have heard it in a forum, a blog, a website, an ebook or a video. Let me clear up this myth for you right now.

Sugar itself is not bad for you. Every food has sugar of some sort in it. Sugar is the life blood of carbohydrates and is important to sustaining life. Just look up monosaccharides on Wikipedia for a full explanation.

It is like saying fat is bad for you.

But without fat, we would have flakey dry skin, creaky joints, brittle hair and a million other ill effects.

Certain TYPES of sugar are bad for you. Processed sugar such as white sugar, icing sugar, brown sugar and the like are bad for you. Most fruits and vegetables are almost entirely sugar, just not the type of sugar we think of when sugar is mention.

So to clear up this myth, after a workout your body is depleted and hungry and in desperate need for nutrients to repair itself. You need to fill it up with protein and some carbs, but without knowing your goals (fat loss, muscle gain etc) then I can't tell you how much.

So when somebody said "Sugar is bad for you" they probably were not meaning that carbs and fruits are bad for you, but processed stuff like white, brown, icing, dessert sugar etc are bad for you.
