If you are like me, I got so sick of people talking about keywords. Every affiliate home business article talked about them. However, guess what? Because I didn't really understand them, I under-estimated their importance and I just went full-steam ahead and literally, threw up my website. It was only after a while, that I realized, I hadn't really understood the concept of keywords at all.
I had a vague idea of what broad theme and product I wanted to promote and then thought of the first keywords that came into my head, wrote them down on a bit of scrap paper and thought, that was easy. I expected the search engines to do the rest. That is, I thought THEY should be working at helping people find MY keywords...the ones I would have written in for a search.
Now, don't get me wrong. I happen to believe in miracles, but this seems to have been asking too much. I had to stop focusing on what I would have used and had to figure out what other people were using. i.e everyone else who was searching for my product or site.
Your first question may be. Everyone mentions their favourite keyword tool. But isn't there anything out there for free? Yes, there is and you could quite well start off with Google's keyword research tool. This is a well-known search tool and will put you in the right direction.
After a while, you might want to check out the ones some of your most reliable net models use.
Everyone is going to tell you they have found the right tool and the best. Check them all out, prices included, before you make a move. Some are so technical that they would give any starter a headache. I would advise you to play around a little with what is free and fairly simple.
However, remember, a key word is just that a word that is a key! It literally gives people the key to finding your promotion or site. It gives them the key into your site. The right key words, if used correctly, are a vital aspect of your affiliate home business success.
While at first, you can manage with a free keyword tool, the paid versions will help you become more specific in targeting your market. You will be able to come up with more unusual and obscure options.
The Google Keyword tool is obviously being used by many people, so that means everybody and his dog will have "discovered" the perfect keyword for his niche and be using it too. That means maybe hundreds of online marketers will be using the very same keywords.
One last word of advice, that, by the way, I myself did not take! When I first started. I was advised to spend a few days on the keyword search before I even began to put up a site. However, I barged straight ahead and then, wasted a lot of time later, correcting, adjusting ( tweaking as it is often called in affiliate home business marketing) my original keywords.
I know that it seems like you are wasting time at the beginning doing a thorough keyword search but it has been said, time and time again, that this is one of the major reasons why sites fail. Discipline yourself to take at least three, ( yes I said three) days to search your keywords. Write that into your action plan. First three days for keyword research, then you can proceed to write material for your site or blog.
Lastly, don't let this keyword stuff panic you out. All types of learning, and being an expert in Education, I know this to be true of anything i.e. any state of overwhelm is just due to one thing. An insufficient number of times the subject that is being learnt has been repeated. Yes, in the end, it all boils down to repetition. So, go take a break, have a cup of coffee and when you feel ready, come back and read up all you can about keywords again.
