Advice for Joint Pain Sufferers

Expert Author Jesus Smith

If you are experiencing pain in your joints, you certainly are not alone. Millions of adults suffer each day from pain in their joints that can be very distracting and take away from all the simple pleasures that life has to offer. It can be in a mild case that only bothers you every blue moon, or it can be a daily occurrence. While it is a great habit to be active regularly and keep your heart healthy with exercise every week, the more active you become the more you increase your chances for pain in your joints. Much like a car that you drive everyday, your body works the same way and after years of movement it begins to develop wear and tear. Your options for any form of relief can come by way of therapies and in several choices for medications.

Some reasons for this type of joint pain are from getting older, from engaging in sports for years and from the onset of Arthritis. It feels just like pressure being applied to the joints and can even make noises after years of damage. Some doctors encourage their joint patients to build up the muscles surrounding the joints that are in pain. For example, if your pain is in your knees you can perform simple exercises to build up your thigh muscles and quadriceps to encourage the strain when you move to be placed on the muscles and not on your joints.

To do this you may sit in a chair and attach an ankle weight of five pounds or more to your ankles. You would then raise your leg straight up and down for a few sets of ten repetitions or until it became too challenging. By doing this each day, you will bulk up the muscle fibers and they will take on the additional support needed to alleviate your joints in the knees areas. This can be applied to any area, if your pain is in your back you need to focus on strengthening your abdominals as they take over your core section to support your body when getting up and down from a sitting position and they also help you when bending over to pick something up.

For other pain remedies you can opt to sit in a hot bath, shower, steam room or hot tub for a few minutes a few times a week or even daily to help reduce your pain. Pain patches that are sold in most drugstores to place directly on the areas that are tender and sore are inexpensive and work to temporarily stop some or all of your pain. Also sleep on a high quality mattress and maybe even with two pillows if your pain is located in the neck or back areas. As a last result, consult with your doctor regarding any prescription pain medications they may advise to help prevent your pain from ruining your day. Keep in mind they do all have side effects that you may want to review in your doctor's presence to answer any questions you may have as well.
