Speaking as a former chubby kid, who couldn't manage to bounce very high on the school trampoline, and now as a grown-up who keeps as fit as I am able, I can identify with how difficult it may at times seem, to go from diet to diet, trying different exercise regimes, to find one that works and also one that you'll enjoy doing. It can be a truly frustrating affair, may even make you binge eat for comfort, yo-yo up and down in weight, or make you want to give up the thought of taking any form of exercise for good.
Two main things to bear in mind though, which should help you along. Ask yourself:
1) Why do you want to put yourself through these diet and exercise processes in the first place?
2) What is your ultimate goal for both body and mind?
Once you've asked "Why" you are doing it and "What" you wish to gain from doing it, then you can plan your pathway forward.
After deciding "Why" and "What" you want to achieve, then choose and follow a suitable program, one which will lead you towards your goal. Finding a program is truly important, because if you are like me, you need to follow something structured. I did try to create my own, but I am not a certified health and fitness pro, just a lover of cakes and potato chips. So, my own program was flawed from the very start and I didn't do at all well.
Okay, an obvious tip then, select a program that is designed by a health and fitness professional, but one which will also cater personally for you, as you want it to be fun too. Diet and exercise can and should be fun, making you happy as well as healthy. You want some enjoyment whilst striving towards your end goal, or there is no point. I don't mean laughing at yourself during the weigh-in either!
I think a good quality, laid back diet and variable exercise program is the answer, for both fun and health. One which is effective, in that it will offer you the toning and weight loss that you are after, through tasty food and a variety of fun workout routines (not the usual neck-stretching, ridiculous ab crunches) but will also allow you to build up your confidence with gradual steps, from absolute beginner to advanced athlete, just in case you get carried away and fancy yourself as a future Olympian. But why not?
This gradual step process with tasty nutrition, should ensure that you keep the frowns away. The fitter you become, the happier you'll begin to feel too and you'll start to notice beneficial physical and mental changes.
To add to that happy feeling, treats are also important. So, set yourself an easy goal to start with, one with which you will feel comfortable. Follow the program steadily, then once your first goal is achieved, reward yourself with a treat of some description, not necessarily food related though huh? Then, continue on your pathway with another goal notch, followed by another treat for achievement, and so on.
Rewarding yourself will give you all the encouragement that you need to progress to the next level. Why not feel good about yourself with a little treat, right?
Something to mention though, is not to put undue pressure on yourself at any time, by thinking negative thoughts. Believing that you can't achieve success will only make it easier just to give up, and you will never break that current life cycle.
Take control instead, keeping your mind focussed, thinking positively. Under no circumstances either, must you allow the friendly, beckoning doughnut part of your brain to take over. You must control it, or you'll just be sat back on the couch, with the potato chips and dips. Then, following the initial joy, the misery will return. We don't want that for you, you deserve more. Tell yourself that. 'Go away, naughty Mister Doughnut!'
Remember, you are doing all this for you, so stay with it, I'm sure you will enjoy it.
