A wedding ceremony is all about the bride and groom coming together to profess in public of the love and commitment they have for each other. These wedding ceremonies are shrouded in rich tradition with a set ceremonial guideline that governs each and every aspect of the event, such as the groom accompanied by groomsmen taking entrance, the wedding party processional and then, the bride entering the scene, which is perhaps the climax of the ceremony.

Then there are several rituals that can be performed and which forms part of the actual wedding ceremony. These include the giving away of the bride, exchanging of wedding vows and placing the wedding rings on the left ring finger of the groom and bride.

However, to be fully aware of the significance of the wedding ring, its important you have an in-depth understanding of the ceremony, like the symbolism surrounding the wedding ring or even the material that goes into the making of wedding bands.

The bride and the groom exchanging wedding rings is a ritual that is prevalent in many cultures around the world and is being practiced for a very long time. Hence no one knows for sure where it originated from or what its exact significance is.

This however, did not stop us from speculating things and the common belief is that the circular wedding band personifies the eternal love between the two individuals, love that knows no bounds and has no beginning or end. It is further believed that the circular ring is a reflection of the heavenly orbits and enduring relationships that is not bound by time. Two such heavenly bodies that are relevant to us the most is the sun and the moon and the way they are related by way of night and daytime.

Also, there is a certain charisma that these rings carry and the one most widely believed notion about these rings that has a certain spiritual connotation attached with it is that the rings serves to protect the wearer if it has been suitably blessed or if a conjuration done. Such a line of thought is still evident with the officiating member of the clergy blessing the ring before it is exchanged by the bride and groom in today's wedding.

There are two distinct aspects that define the construction of the wedding rings, the metal that is used and the design of the wedding rings.

Generally, precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, titanium, and so on are used for making wedding rings. It is common for these rings to be embedded with precious gems, with diamond being the one that is most sought after.

Then it's also a common practice to have something etched on these wedding rings, like symbols, dates or words that have a specific meaning and which serves to be a reminder of the big day. For instance, couples might prefer to have the dates and initials that typify the wedding day and the couple's names and are generally done on the inside of wedding bands

Another carving method that is equally popular is the one that gets reflected in the Celtic wedding ring. The prime characteristics of these rings are the intertwining of tendrils and vines that is a depiction of two souls coming together to live as one forever.
