About the Memory of a Computer

There are two main types of memory in the configuration of a computer - the RAM memory and the ROM one. The memory is the primary working space of a computer. Working in parallel with the CPU, the memory of a computer stores the data and processes information which can be processed immediately and directly by the CPU or by other system devices. The memory is also connected to the software and the CPU.

From an internal point of view, the RAM memory is arranged in a memory cell matrix, each cell being used for storing a byte of data. The data which are memorized can be found almost on the spot by indicating the row and the column at the intersection of which we can find the cell in question. there are two types of memory - the SRAM one or the static one and the DRAM one or the dynamic one.

The DRAM technology is the most frequently encountered with the current systems. This technology has to be refreshed hundreds of times per second in order to register the data stored in the memory cells. Each cell is conceived like a small condenser, which stores the electric cargo.

The SRAM technology also uses the matrix in order to store data, but it is five times faster, twice as expensive and twice as large as the SRAM memory. It does not need to be refreshed, the central element of a cell being a bistable circuit. This technology is used for cache memories because it is characterized through a very large speed.
