If you're checking out the Ab Rocker, you likely have a little extra fat around your midsection, like I used to. However, this device may not be the solution you're looking for. This article will explain why the Ab Rocker may not be for you, and help you find other solutions.
The Ab Rocker is a device made to work out and tone your midsection. It mimics a basic sit-up and specifically targets your abdominal muscles with its movements. It keeps you locked into one range of motion, to make the movement easier as per the advertisements of the manufacturer.
The problem with the Ab Rocker, although its makers intentions are very good, is that it will not only do very little to help you actually lose the fat around your stomach, but will likely only make the problem worse visually. The creators, unfortunately, inaccurately portray how fat loss works. The Ab Rocker is built around an idea called "spot reduction," or rather, the ability to lose fat in one area of the body by working it over and over. To the dismay of many disappointed consumers, this is simply not how the body works, and in fact, will only bring more blood to the exercised muscle and make it appear even bigger and fuller -- not a good thing if your goal is reducing your stomach size.
Another overlooked problem of the Rocker is how it ignores the thousands of small stabilizer muscles that support your abdominals, creating muscle imbalances and injuries with its fixed-range movements.
Again, although the intentions of the machine are good, it likely won't deliver the results you're expecting. The truth is: you don't need a special ab machine to lose weight. The solution, in fact, is much easier (and cheaper!) than you think. My experience -- and that of my clients -- suggests that simply walking and eating the exact right foods will get you the trim stomach you're looking for.
