Do you ever feel like you are spinning your wheels with your conscious business? You have a clear mission statement. You have a magnificent product, idea, business name and logo. You go to networking meetings, have social media connections and develop relationships with potential clients. But, at the core of your business something feels flat and empty.
Even with a clear mission statement, the piece you may be missing is a statement of true purpose.
The statement of true purpose speaks to the essence of your conscious business. It is the piece that will always be present in any business adventure. It is who you are, what you value and the unique gift you are here to share.
Twenty years ago I was the computer software trainer at a Pharmaceutical company in Baltimore, MD. My job description included:
*Learn all software applications
*Develop training manuals
*Provide ongoing training for employees
Learning new technology, challenging myself and working with people was a dream job and I loved it. But, after a few months, the job felt flat. I began to notice I was watching the clock and waiting for the end of the day.
One day, in an individual training session, I felt alive, connected, creative and inspired. The employee thanked me at the end of the session for my patience, encouragement and confidence building. I felt a paradigm shift in that moment. I saw that the computer trainer job was just a cover for the essence of my true work. The nuts and bolts of the job had become more important than my heart centered connection to the work.
My true purpose was:
*Create supportive environments for learning
*Build confidence by reinforcing risk taking and decision making
*Provide instruction with creativity and fun
*Model love, acceptance, collaboration and cooperation
I began to love my job again when I found a deeper reason to connect with the tasks of the job. The clues to my true purpose were in the moments when I felt alive, passionate and connected.
What is the underlying essence of your mission statement? What is your statement of true purpose?
