A Newer and Dominant British Open Champion is Crowned!

One of the most historic nights in South African sports history came when Louis Oosthuizen won the Open Championships on Sunday at the St. Andrews stadium.

But the celebration was certainly a bit different.

We all remember the invasion of vuvuzelas at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa but this time they were replaced by the raging bagpipes. It was definitely a momentous night for the South African golfer.

Ten years ago, Tiger Woods came here and blew us off and that was the intensity of Oosthuizen's performance this year. He led the field for more than 48 holes and he won the game before seven shots.

After the win he said that winning the Open Championships is special and he added that winning at St. Andrews was everything he dreamt about.

It seems that South Africa is having the best time ever. The day was very special for South Africa is a different way as it was Mandela's 92nd birthday. And only a week ago, they completed the famous Football world cup.

Oosthuizen said that it is really special. He said that when he walked to the 18th hole, he was thinking about Mandela's birthday.

But truly, at the 18th hole most of the tough work was done and over. His performance was very dominative and he committed only two bogeys in almost 35 holes. He finished with a victory over Lee Westwood who was never really in the game at all.

But Oosthuizen's real challenge came in form of Paul Casey who drove close to just three shots by the 8th hole. But Oosthuizen answered him strongly and hit a massive eagle shot to put himself in the driver's seat.

After three holes, Casey lost his game as he made a triple bogey. But Oosthuizen put in a birdie which ensured he steered clear from the rest.

Oosthuizen finished his game with a 16-under 272 and won his first major at St. Andrews. He became only the second player since Tony Lema to do so.

Just as Tony Lema, Oosthuizen ordered a bottle of champagne for the press people.

It is true that everyone struggled to spell his name but all that matters was the engraving which said his name in the trophy.

This is the fifth victory of his career and with it he moves to the 15th place in the world rankings. As a proof to the universal appeal of Golf, this is the second time that all four majors are won by players from four different continents.
